Invitation to the 161st London Eza,

Firstly, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you for your selfless support over the last year, especially your support and participation in the first memorial ceremony for the late Prof, John White, which was named “Remembering John”.

The 1st Remembering John ceremony took place on 6th November, exactly one year on from the day John passed away. Three Wheels welcomed many people in-person and people from Japan and U.K. online, including Venerable Takehara, Head Priest of Shogyoji, and Rev. Sato, who is in Japan at the moment. We read Prof. White’s first talk given at Shogyoji in 1993, which allowed us to understand who John was, why he became one of the founders of Three Wheels, why he dedicated his last 30 years to Three Wheels, and the reason that he treasured spiritual exchange with others; especially people from Shogyoji Temple in Japan. Also, many of you brought and shared with us many beautiful memories of John which allowed us to remember or discover his unique personality, deep loving kindness and selfless dedication for others. Thank you once again for sharing your memories of John.

At the coming 161st London Eza, we are going to listen to our long-time, devout Dharma friend, Mr. Andrew Webb, who has become “post-John,” I believe, after many years of learning how to work for others from John’s spiritual attitude, ever since Andrew first became a trustee of London Shogyoji Trust. This year Andrew was involved in religious activities not only at Three Wheels but also at Shogyoji Temple during the summer. Also, we can expect to hear from Rev. Sato about his fresh experiences at Shogyoji as he will be back to London in time for the next London Eza. Let us look forward to listening to their experiences of this past year, and what they have in mind.

After the religious meeting, Three Wheels has planned to have a “Thanksgiving, end of year party”, which will be held for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic occurred.

We are looking forward to welcoming you.

Yours faithfully,

Rev. Kenshin Ishii
