Garden Open Days

The National Garden Scheme (NGS www.ngs.org.uk ) is the opening of privately owned gardens to the public with a small entrance fee (Garden Open Days). In previous years they have raised over 3 million pounds for their beneficiaries which include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute.

Three Wheels has been participating in this scheme for over 17 years. During our Garden Open Days, we open our stone garden and Buddha Hall to the general public. Visitors also receive a unique insight into the background and meaning of our Zen Garden, Buddhism, and the activities of our temple. The tea masters, with some kimono-clad assistants, demonstrate and explain the tea ceremony to our guests.

The income generated from selling tea and books contribute to the fundraising for the Three Wheels Temple, but all the entrance fees are directly donated to NGS. This event is a great opportunity for discovery, not only for garden lovers but also for anyone interested in different cultures, Buddhism and our temple. Thank you very much to everyone who has helped and visited us for this wonderful event in the past. Without our volunteers’ selfless contribution, this wonderful event would not be as successful as it is now.

“Thinking and nothing more is tantamount to stagnating. The essence of Buddhism lies in ‘constantly becoming’ which in turn means needing ‘to make diligent efforts.’ If we practise this sincerely we will feel nothing but gratitude in our hearts.” Head Priest.
