Invitation to the London Eza
It is with great pleasure that I am writing once again to invite you to the 139th London Eza, to be held at Three Wheels at 1.00 p.m. on Sunday 17th June 2018.
At our forthcoming meeting, Mr Andrew Webb, one of our Dharma friends, is to give a talk entitled Just Say Something. In his most recent letter to me he explains that it will be a personal reflection on his spiritual encounters in the Sangha over the last twenty years, with special emphasis on those experiences – undergone when participating in Three Wheels activities such as the London Eza and Shokai retreats – that helped change both his way of thinking and his direction in life. He will definitely have something very important to say and I am very much looking forward to listening to him with you all on the day.
Coming now to the subject of the 21st Shokai Retreat What Have I Learnt about the Teaching of Selflessness? I was extremely happy to see all the participants either speaking, each in their own way, about their experience of selflessness or else listening quietly and mindfully to one another. Concentrating on this most fundamental teaching of Buddhism, the main subject of Venerable Chimyo Takehara’s article in our last Newsletter, we also listened to Reverend Kenshin Ishii’s splendid presentation of the Great Memorial Event that is going to take place at Shogyoji Temple later this year in November. To all those involved in the Shokai retreat I would like to take the opportunity to express now my deepest gratitude for the spiritual evolution, far beyond our expectations, that occurred within each and every one of us.
Some very important events in our calendar, our Garden Open Days, are scheduled to take place on 2nd & 3rd and 23rd & 24th June 2018. This year again, the designer of our Zen garden, Professor John White, is kindly giving a talk on its design and completion. I do hope as many as possible of you will find the time to attend, together with your friends.
I much look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks’ time.
