Invitation to the 167th London Eza to be held on the 3rd December

Dear friends of Three Wheels,

Time flies, and there are fewer than two months left in the year. Now the weather is growing colder day by day, but I hope you and your families are doing well.

Today I’m writing to invite you to the 167th London Eza, incorporating the annual memorial ceremony of the late Mrs Hiroko Sato, which will take place on Sunday, December 3rd at 1:00 p.m.

Nowadays, there are many wonderful resources about Buddhism available on the Internet or in books, and Three Wheels has been contacted by many new visitors seeking Buddha’s teaching. However, many newcomers say that to begin with they unfortunately struggled to apply Buddha Dharma (Buddhist teaching) in their daily lives. However, as a result of trying to solve this difficulty, they discovered a Sangha (a group of Buddhist practitioners) at Three Wheels and now enjoy learning how to practice Buddhism in their daily lives.

Many people believe that Buddhism introduces something external, that is entirely novel or unfamiliar, into our lives to change our circumstances. However, Buddhism simply and purely illuminates our self-centeredness and awakens our spiritual eyes in the Sangha to the truth of our life. In other words, Buddhism does not change our external conditions but helps us to become aware of our lives and to be grateful to those who surround and support us in our daily lives. This awareness happens in Sangha by listening to others.

All of our activities held this year were highly meaningful because of all of your help through your preparation and involvement in various activities. On behalf of many of those who expressed their gratitude to the Dharma activities this year, Mr Andy Barritt will give a talk titled “On being illumined in the midst of adversity, through encounter with otherness”. I believe that we will come to know why the three, Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, are known as the “Three Treasures” through listening his talk.

I hope that many of you will join us and become aware of something significant that already exists in your own lives.

Following the talk and discussion, Three Wheels will host an annual thanksgiving party for as long as time allows.

We are excited to welcome all of you to the 167th London Eza.

Kind regards in humility and respect,

Rev. Kenshin ISHII
Deputy Director
